Why yes, I did see Papa Francis. Alex and I found our next apartment, which was a 10 minute walk from the Vatican. Our first day, we strolled through the city center. The streets are just littered with ancient ruins, its unbelievable. We ate gelato all the way to the Pantheon.
That night we met up with my friend from high school, who was spending a few months in Rome. After the festivities that night, we realized we had to walk around the Vatican to get home. We then just decided to go through it. We jumped the small fence and walked by Francis until we got kicked out. Well worth it.
The next day we went to Pope Francis' blessing. The Vatican fits 250,000 people and it was impossible to weed through the crowd. That day we also went to the Ancient Ruins. At the same time, a marathon around Rome was going on, with the starting point at the Colosseum. A lot was going on in Rome that day. After pretending to be British to get an EU discount (failed at that), we roamed the ruins of the Colosseum and surrounding areas.
That night we saw the Roma vs. Parma soccer game and the Romans won! The next morning we got up early and headed to the airport to catch our class back in London at 2. I had a banana in Rome for breakfast, and an orange in London for lunch. It really messes with your head when you move this fast.
