Cucamonga Peak is one of my absolute favorite hikes in Southern California! Starting at the Icehouse Canyon Trailhead, this hike is almost 12 miles and takes you to 8,862 ft. Using this hike to train for my upcoming backpacking trip in Hawaii, Cucamonga Peak was the perfect choice. With a steep incline for much of the trail, you want to eat well and start early.
My friend Sara and I stopped at the Icehouse Saddle for a quick break, and began hitting snow soon after. The north side of this mountain doesn't see much sun, so even in late April, there was a decent amount of snow.
The top is absolutely breathtaking. Bring lunch and hangout there for a bit. There's nothing like that feeling of being so small and admiring your city from above, so savor it.
