Mount Lukens is a peak of the San Gabriel Mountain Range, with a few trails offering beautiful views of Los Angeles and the ocean. At the top of Mount Lukens, you can also see the expanse of the mountain range into San Bernadino, the taller peaks teasing you with their beauty. Hiked in January, there was snow around the peak, but the sun kept my friends and I pretty warm regardless. Hiking up Crescenta View Trail, the switchbacks were a rude awakening for my legs in the new year. We returned via the Rim of the Valley Trail, making our hike about 10 miles long. The peak of Mount Lukens is marked at 5,075 ft.

You can find plenty of parking at Deukmejian Wilderness Park, and be sure to start early! You're heavily exposed, so when the sun rises you can get extremely hot.
